About Dr. Katie
I grew up as a very active (and clumsy) kid, which lead to a lot of injuries. My first major injury was a shoulder dislocation from serving a volleyball in freshman year PE. This was my first experience with physical therapy and I instantly knew my calling. I was fascinated by the knowledge the PTs possessed about the human body and ways to heal it without medications or surgery.
I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Wyoming, graduating summa cum laude with my Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology and Movement Science. I moved to Portland, Oregon to attend Pacific University where I graduated with distinction with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
After completing Physical Therapy school in Oregon, my husband and I moved to Dallas, where we’ve lived for the last 5 years. Throughout my professional career, I’ve helped patients overcome various orthopedic conditions to get back to being physically active without experiencing pain or limitations.
After working at a few different clinics in the Dallas area, I found there was a disconnect between insurance company directed care and patient centered care. I didn’t feel my patients were getting the care they deserved because insurance companies were limiting what could be done as well as cutting reimbursements, which lead to 2-4 patients being seen by one PT at a time.
This led me to create mvmt PT, where my patients are seen for an hour completely one-on-one. This approach has lead to better and quicker outcomes for patients, allowing them to return to all the activities they once enjoyed without the limitations or pain they previously faced. I spend extra time educating patients on what they’re feeling, how the body is meant to move, and how their body's compensatory patterns have altered "normal" movement to allow them to understand what is happening in their own body. My goal for you is to feel empowered about your body with the knowledge that you gain from our sessions together.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my husband Chris and our dog Ollie. I have a wandering soul and love traveling and exploring new places. I’m also a big foodie, so restaurant hopping on the weekend is a must for me. When I’m not working, spending quality time with my family, or enjoying a delicious meal at a new restaurant, you’ll find me on an indoor cycling bike or wandering the Katy Trail.
